Renovation of Palazzo Villamarina "Ex-Ersat" - Tempio Pausania

The aim of the restoration and refurbishment project for Palazzo Villamarina is to turn the building into an operational tool for active local development policies in the field of sustainable tourism, the protection and enhancement of the historical, cultural and environmental heritage, craftsmanship and food and wine traditions of the municipalities of Aggius, Aglientu, Bortigiadas, Calangianus, Luogosanto, Luras, Santa Teresa and Tempio Pausania.

The 'Villamarina' palace was built in the early 19th century by the Pes Villamarina family from Tempio, who at that time represented the Viceroy of Sardinia; the palace was used as the seat of the regional government offices and as a residence for officials.
In 1850, it was rented to the Royal Army and became the military headquarters of the Sardinian Hunters first and then the Bersaglieri.

Palazzo Villamarina consists of two buildings, the main one overlooking Piazza Brigata Sassari and the second one overlooking Via della Resistenza; between the two buildings there is a large inner courtyard.

The main building, with a rectangular plan, has three floors: the ground floor, the first floor and the second floor.

The conservative restoration work envisaged in the project included energy efficiency, re-roofing, maintenance of the stone façade, replacement of fixtures and all interior finishes. An external exhibition hall in steel and glass with an integrated photovoltaic system was also built.
All electrical and mechanical systems have been renewed with sustainable and energy efficient choices.
