The Airport Council International has named Aeroporti di Roma the best European airport. The award is reinforced by the opening of Pier A, the new boarding area that looks to the future.
This is, in fact, ADR’s goal: tomorrow’s Fiumicino will have to meet the new needs of users with efficiency, technology, environmental friendliness and maximum safety. It is precisely in this framework that the intervention of Incide Engineering fits.
Opening of Pier A: the inauguration
This is the first civil construction project to start since the beginning of the pandemic.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was also attended by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who thanked all the workers who contributed to the construction of the work. The president also emphasised how hard-working, not static, the pandemic years have been, and that this important infrastructure is a clear sign of recovery and confidence in the future.
In fact, the inaugurated infrastructure is also a symbol: a testimony to the value of Italy, which does not stop despite the difficulties and starts again with courage and vision.
New Pier A, Fiumicino: the project between green and hi-tech
The new boarding area is as large as five football fields and can handle as many as 6 million passengers. But what does the project consist of and what are its objectives? Let us look at it in detail.
This infrastructure is part of the project to upgrade the eastern area of the airport with a total investment of 400 million euro.
The project consists of two large structures, interconnected by a body along which seven original masterpieces from the Ostia Antica archaeological park are on display to promote Roman classicism and knowledge of the historical-artistic value of the area where Fiumicino airport operates: an innovative pier that allows the docking of the most modern aircraft available, and an exclusive shopping mall with over 6,000 square metres of space dedicated to retail and food & beverage excellence, which houses a total of 21 new points of sale.
The entire infrastructure is lit with LED lamps and has been constructed using the most advanced and sustainable building technologies. The area will soon obtain the Gold level certification of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) international protocol, which is issued for environmentally friendly buildings.
Again with a green perspective, then, the climatic treatment has been arranged through radiant floor panels, control of temperature and humidity parameters in the environment.
Fire Safety Engineering: Incide Engineering’s intervention
The new boarding area, of about 37,000 square metres, is environmentally advanced and intended for passengers on domestic and Schengen flights.
For this important work, Incide Engineering carried out the fire prevention certification activities, aimed at verifying the regulatory and functional conformity of the fire prevention measures. The aim was the issue of the Certified Declaration of Start of Activity.
