The council of Abano Terme (Padua, Italy) approved the definitive project of the new Magnolia Theater, completely redesigned by Incide Engineering with a new look and multiple functions.

The structure will be built in the urban thermal park of Abano and envisages an investment of over 3 million euros, financed for a third by the Pnrr.

This is how the new Magnolia Theater was born: discover the details of the work.

The project: the sinuous cloud that will host the shows

The multifunctional structure, the “Palamagnolia” as it could be renamed once the construction is completed, will be subject to an important modification, already anticipated two years ago when it was hypothesized to bring the main entrance of the tensile structure into the thermal urban park.

Incide Engineering, which boasts very important projects both in Italy and abroad such as the Grand Théâtre de Rabat by Zaha Hadid, La Seine Musicale in Paris by Shigeru Ban, the Parc des Expositions in Orléans and the restoration of the Roccabonella palace in Padua , took care of the project in collaboration with the public works office, interpreting the guidelines of the administration in the best possible way.

The multifunctional center involves the construction of a new structure in which the Magnolia theater will dialogue with the park in a fluid way, redeveloping its use, and will be characterized by an open, neutral structure on which the play of light will be able to give character to each architectural element , a semi-transparent and sinuous membrane.

The multifunctional platform has been sized to accommodate no less than six hundred spectators, creating a flexible space that can adapt to various usage scenarios, a synergistic expansion of the park capable of hosting various activities.

«The designers» explains the mayor of Abano Terme (IT) Federico Barbierato «were able to skilfully incorporate the guidelines of the administration into their work, suggesting suggestions and inspirations that were received with enthusiasm».

The project takes up the efficiency and lightness of traditional structures for shows, from the relationship with the natural landscape to the green areas that also creep into the covered space, as well as the water element that crosses and characterizes the project by weaving a strong connection with the park and the spa town.

Particular attention was also given to the aspects of hydraulic safety. Using the changes in height and the differences in height that have been designed for the green areas, rolling spaces have been created for a total of 400m3.

The twenty-year experience of Incide Engineering for the world of sport and entertainment

Buildings designed for sports and entertainment express strong representative values, so Incide Engineering takes care of their design to the point of making them true architectural icons.

The long experience has led Incide to deal with projects such as the largest indoor arena in Europe, the “Paris Défense Arena“, one of the most important works built in Paris in recent years, which has had a profound effect on the Skyline de la Défense and which brings with it a complicated story, between engineering complexity and temporal vicissitudes.

Furthermore, in addition to the projects already mentioned, Incide has followed the design for the headquarters of the Royal Morocco Football Federation, the Aspire Tower, the tallest structure in Doha, the new Al Khor stadium in Qatar, the Philadelphia Stadium in Turin and many other projects still.
